Terms
These terms are between you and Everbranch, a service operated from the United Kingdom. Using the site means accepting them. The content policy and the privacy notice are part of them.
Who can use this
You must be 18 or over. You confirm this when you sign up. One account per person. You are responsible for what happens under your account, so keep your password to yourself.
Credits
Credits are prepaid and spent as you use the service. They do not expire, they do not renew, and there is no subscription. New accounts are given a one-off allowance, and a small number of free credits arrive daily up to a modest ceiling; free credits are a courtesy, not an entitlement, and the amounts can change.
Prices are in US dollars and are the whole of what you pay. No tax is added at checkout and no VAT is charged, so the figure on the credits page is the figure on your card.
Credits are non-refundable. Once bought they can be spent on the service but not exchanged back for money, whether or not you use them. Credits have no cash value, cannot be transferred between accounts, and are lost if you delete your account.
A generation that fails, that cannot be read back, or that is refused by the content rules is never charged for. If you are a consumer, nothing here removes a statutory right you have to a refund where the service was not delivered. By buying credits and using them immediately, you ask us to begin supplying digital content at once and accept that the right to cancel is lost once it has been supplied.
Earning credits from invites and seeds
You earn 5% in credits of what people you invited spend, and seeds you write earn you 5% of what other people spend playing branches of them. Commission is paid only on credits that were bought; free credits earn nobody anything. It is paid in credits, which are subject to everything said about credits above, including having no cash value.
Inviting yourself, creating accounts to farm commission, or any similar arrangement is a breach of these terms and the credits will be reversed.
What you write
You keep the rights to what you write and publish here. By publishing, you give us permission to host and display it, and to show it to anyone, for as long as it is published. Published branches are free to read without an account. You can retract anything you published, and export any finished branch of your own.
Text generated by the writer during your branch is yours to edit, keep and publish, within the content policy. We make no claim to it. We also make no promise that anybody else’s branch is original: the same premise can produce similar prose for two people, and neither of you owns the other’s.
What the service does and does not promise
A branch runs to at most 200 turns. Writers, prices, free allowances and features change as the service changes, and models are added and removed as their providers add and remove them. A writer you liked may stop being available.
Stories are written by language models. They can produce prose that is dull, wrong, repetitive, or unlike what you asked for. That is the nature of the thing and is not a fault we can undertake to fix in any particular case. The service is provided as it is, without warranty, and may be unavailable at times.
Ending an account
You can delete your account at any time from settings. Doing so wipes your name, address and bio, takes down your seeds and published branches, and forfeits any remaining credits. It cannot be undone.
We can suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or the content policy. That decision is made by a person, not automatically. Where an account is closed for a serious breach, credits are forfeited.
Changes, law and complaints
These terms can change. The date at the foot of this page says when they last did; continuing to use the service after a change means accepting it. They are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction, without affecting any right you have to bring a claim where you live.
